NEWS - synthetic blood

True Blood isn't just TV and books anymore. Here's an article from the Daily Mail UK:

Synthetic blood created by British scientists could be used in transfusions in just two years

  1. i love this. it's yet another example of how "fiction" (or specifically science fiction) helps inspire people (scientists) to invent new and potentially lifesaving stuff. Also, i love True Blood -- mostly Erik :)

This is so important, no more worries about the quality of blood donations.

    1. Do we all try to donate on a regular basis? If not, why not?

    2. Could Blood Banks offer incentives?

    3. What would it take to get the average schmuck to donate?

  3. I think there will be people insisting on real, human blood when needed for a looong time to come. GMO foods, bioengineering, digital vs. old school printed books, clones vs. original beings, etc. It's all about "tradition", how far the mind can stretch.

Blood is perhaps the most iconic symbol of life, but no matter how "against" artificial blood a person might be, I don't think anyone would rather die prematurely than have some lab blood in their veins.

    Would you accept lab blood?
